H-E-B Pet & Owner Fun Run

Each year this event begins with a Fun Run and this year’s races are 1K, 3K, and 5K. Compete with or without your four-legged friends! We will kick off the event with the HEB Pet & Owner Fun Run on Saturday April 2. Register online beginning Dec. 1st at Active.com. (Note: Clicking button will deliver you to our third-party registration site.) Applications are also available in the Pearland Parks & Recreation Office, located at 4141 Bailey Rd., Pearland, Texas 77584 during normal business hours.

Discover Space Center Houston’s top five cosmic spring attractions

Meet an astronaut, walk inside a space shuttle and pilot an airplane during Space Center Houston’s Cosmic Spring, presented by the city of Webster, throughout March.

“Visitors will feel like an explorer on the ultimate mission,” said Richard Allen, president and CEO for the nonprofit Space Center Houston. “Plan a full-day adventure and navigate your way through hands-on activities in the new spring exhibit, board the tram tour and walk through the giant Independence Plaza complex.”

There are more than 400 things to see and do, plus special opportunities just for Space Center Houston’s Cosmic Spring. Visitors can enter the one-of-a-kind exhibit, Independence Plaza, dedicated to the historic shuttle era; have fun in an all-new interactive exhibit that explores the exciting modes of transportation; and meet an astronaut as a part of the center’s Cosmic Spring line-up.

Make it your mission to accomplish all top five Cosmic Spring experiences.

    Independence Plaza presented by Boeing: The new exhibit brings the 30-year Space Shuttle Program to life with interactive exhibits and an up-close look at many NASA artifacts – all inside a full shuttle replica mounted on top of the original shuttle carrier aircraft. Stand inside the giant plane, walk inside the shuttle and see astronaut living quarters.

  1. Going Places – the Technology of Transport, presented by the city of Webster now through May 1: Discover the technology that transforms how we live in Space Center Houston’s interactive spring exhibit. The North American premiere, Going Places, designed and produced by Scitech and produced by Imagine Exhibitions, is an interactive science exhibit that explores the technology developed for travel. With hands-on displays, visitors will fly an airplane, ride a hovercraft or race a friend on a recumbent bicycle.
  1. NASA Tram Tour: Go behind-the-scenes to see history in the making at NASA Johnson Space Center. The NASA Tram Tour is expanded for Cosmic Spring and takes visitors to see the state-of-the-art astronaut training facilities; the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, where astronauts train for spacewalks in the zero gravity pool; Historic Mission Control, a national historic landmark where NASA monitored missions to the moon; and Rocket Park, where the enormous Saturn V Rocket is housed.
  1. Meet an Astronaut: See a real space pioneer and hear stories about their space adventures every Friday with extra engagements March 14-18 and March 24. See astronauts Clay Anderson, Ken Cameron, Leroy Chiao, Mike McCulley, Brain Duffy, Mike Foreman and Mark Polansky. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear what it takes to become an astronaut and hear fascinating stories from brave men who spent time in space.

    “Journey To Space:” Watch a film about the exciting work happening at NASA in the newly updated Space Center Theater. With stunning 4K ultra-high definition, new audio and an all-new giant screen, the film tells the story of historic space explorations and future missions to land astronauts on Mars. Learn about the future spacesuit design, the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) that will allow astronauts to explore deep space.

To enhance your visit, Space Center Houston has launched a new Astronaut Audio Tour with first-hand stories from space pioneers, beautiful photos and exciting videos that tell the rich history and sparkling future of human space exploration. There’s even a new children’s audio tour featuring a quiz game with colorful illustrations to help youngsters learn about the museum’s out-of-this world collection and interactive activities. Don’t miss the interactive games and the wealth of information that tell the evolution of human space exploration.

Space Center Houston has expanded hours of 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on March 12-27. Glow-in-the-dark mini golf comes to Pearland

Lunar Mini Golf is about to open its newest location in the Pearland Town Center.

“We expect to be open in mid-March,” said Regional Manager Samantha White. “We put together a Facebook page for the Pearland location, and the response has been positively overwhelming!”

Lunar Mini Golf features an indoor putt-putt course, but players compete in the dark. The course, flags and holes are illuminated with coatings that glow in black light, which is the only lighting source in the facility. There is also the Party Zone area for birthday and other parties.

“We are 100% family-friendly,” White said. “We had a family come in to our Grapevine location the other day with a grandma who did not look happy to be there. After she got a hole-in-one, she was the loudest one in the group!”

Everyday prices will be $9.00 per adult player, $8 for players 6 – 12 years old, $6.00 for children 5 and younger and two year-olds will be free with one paid admission. Group discounts for five or more people will be $8 per player. Military and First Responders will receive a $2 discount.

Lunar Mini Golf will also have a party room for birthday parties and other small events. The Birthday Party Package will be $99 for a 90-minute party for up to 12 players. This includes unlimited golf, free use of the Party Zone, one shot at the Prize Hole (the 18th hole) per player and a free glow necklace for each player.

Ms. Drinnen’s presentation is titled Cruising Through: Migrations In and Around Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. The coral reefs of Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary serve as a focal point for tropical and sub-tropical marine life about 100 miles off the Texas coast. Explore with us the fly-ways and by-ways above and below the waters of this haven in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Migration Celebration Kickoff Dinner will be held at Freeport RiverPlace, located at 500 N Brazosport Blvd, Freeport, TX 77541, on April 8, 2016. The Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour Brings Extremely Rare Bomber and Fighter Aircraft for Local Living History Display as Part of 110-city Nationwide Tour

WHAT: Participating in the Collings Foundation’s WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” WWII Heavy Bomber, Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” WWII Heavy Bomber and P-51 Mustang fighter, will fly into Ellington Airport in Houston, TX for a visit from March 9 to March 11.

This is a rare opportunity to visit, explore, and learn more about these unique and rare treasures of aviation history. The B-17 is one of only 8 in flying condition in the United States, the B-24J and Full Dual Control P-51C Mustang are the sole remaining examples of their type flying in the World. The B-25 is best known for being used in the daring Doolittle raid. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out - $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12 is requested for access to up-close viewing and tours through the inside of the aircraft. Discounted rates for school groups. Visitors may also experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to actually take a 30-minute flight aboard these rare aircraft. Flights on either the B-17 or B-24 are $450 per person. Get some “stick time” in the world’s greatest fighter! P-51 flights are $2,200 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full hour. WHERE: The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR will be on display at Ellington Airport in Houston located at Landmark Aviation,11811 N. Brantly.

WHEN: The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR will arrive at Ellington Field at 2:00 PM on March 9 and will be on display at Ellington Field until the aircraft departs March 11 after 12:00 PM. Hours of ground tours and display are: 2:00 PM through 4:30 PM on Wednesday, March 9; 9:00 AM through 4:30 PM on Thursday, March 10; 9:00 AM through 12:00 PM on Friday, March 11. The 30-minute flight experiences are normally scheduled before and after the ground tour times above.

WHO: The Collings Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit educational foundation devoted to organizing “living history” events that allows people to learn more about their heritage and history through direct participation. The Nationwide WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR is celebrating its 27th year and visits an average of 110 cities in over 35 states annually. Since its start, tens of millions of people have seen the B-17, B-24 & P-51 display at locations everywhere. The WINGS OF FREEDOM tour is one of the most extraordinary and unique interactive traveling historical displays of its kind.

WHY: The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR travels the nation as a flying tribute to the flight crews who flew them, the ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them, the soldiers, sailors and airmen they helped protect; and the citizens and families that share the freedom that they helped preserve. The B-17, B-25 & B-24 were the backbone of the American effort during the war from 1942 to 1945 and were famous for their ability to sustain damage and still accomplish the mission. Despite the risks of anti-aircraft fire, attacking enemy fighters, and the harrowing environment of sub-zero temperatures, many B-17s and B-24s safely brought their crews home. The P-51 Mustang was affectionately known as the bombers “Little Friend” – saving countless crews from attacking axis fighters. After the war, many aircraft were scrapped for their raw aluminum to rebuild a nation in post-war prosperity and therefore very few were spared. The rarity of the B-17, B-25, B-24 & P-51 - and their importance to telling the story of WWII is why the Collings Foundation continues to fly and display the aircraft nationwide. At each location we encourage local veterans and their families to visit and share their experiences and stories with the public. Houston Auto Show returns Jan. 27-31

The 2016 Houston Auto Show is Texas’ first opportunity to see the latest and greatest in automotive innovation, January 27 through January 31, 2025 at NRG Center. More than 700 of the newest model year import and domestic vehicles, concept cars and even classics, along with extreme dirt road kings, modified vehicles and ultra-luxuries, will all be on display, covering the entire 700,000 square feet of NRG Center, in a truly Texas-sized event.

The Houston Auto Show, produced by the Houston Automobile Dealers Association and presented by the Houston Chronicle, features 30-plus car makers and offers an opportunity to test drive more than 70 vehicles all in one place. Manufacturer participants include; Acura, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, JEEP, Kia, Land Rover, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lincoln, Lotus, Mazda, Maserati, Mercedes Benz, MINI, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Ram, Toyota, Scion, Subaru, Volkswagen and Volvo.

The newest additions for the 2016 show include a modified Camp Jeep with a dirt track, an interactive social media wall and more aftermarket vendors than ever before. This year’s entrance includes an Extreme Off-Road Parkway, featuring vehicles with specialty adaptations.

For true admirers of automation, the Houston Auto Show will also exhibit more than 75 classic vehicles throughout the lobby of NRG Center and in a specialty section called ‘Seldom Seen Classics.’ This area includes rare finds such as the 1954 Kaiser Darrin, a 1957 Oldsmobile J2 and even a fully restored 1927 Model T “barn find.”

The 2016 Houston Auto Show at the NRG Center is open daily, Wednesday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 31. Show hours are:

Winterfest Jan. 30

About The Event:

Come for a fun filled day of playing in the snow, rides, great food and more!
Tickets: Tickets will be on sale at the Recreation Center and Natatorium beginning Dec. 1 through Jan. 29. Bring a canned good, benefiting the Pearland Neighborhood Center, to receive a $2 discount on pre-sale tickets (maximum one discount per ticket). There will not be any discounts the day of the event.

Parking:

Parking is located at Turner High School and a free shuttle will run to and from the event throughout the day. Event parking is free.
