The Lions Club of Pearland was proud to donate 62 backpacks, some filled with school supplies, to the Vic Coppinger YMCA‘s “Operation Backpack,” on July 1. “Every backpack was purchased by a Lion out of his own pocket, not out of the Lions Club funds,” says Secretary Hugh Patton.
Given that there are around 120 Lions, almost half of the members took action to gather these backpacks and supplies in one day. The items were loaded up in a truck and presented to Ruby Sanders at the YMCA by her husband and Lion, George Sanders. The backpacks and supplies will be given to underprivileged students in local area school districts.
About Operation Backpack: YMCAs across the Greater Houston area are gearing up to provide school supplies for children in our communities. The children you help through this project will be filled with hope, joy and excitement as they start the school year. Your investment will provide these children the opportunity to start school with the tools to be successful.
Many willing hearts are needed to assist with this project. Help the YMCA make a difference in the life of a child. Donate a backpack filled with school supplies and change a life!
