The Houston Mayor’s Office, Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, METRO, Former City Councilman Gordon Quan, Civic Leader Susan Young and Community Relations Expert Myra Johnson have joined forces to coordinate a 4-night community event series, called the “Game City Showcase,” which will be held the Monday – Thursday leading up to Super Bowl 51 in 4 different neighborhood districts of the city (Midtown, Theater District, EADO, Museum District). “Our sole mission is to help local businesses and nonprofits benefit from Super Bowl 51 coming to Houston. We want to provide free ways Houstonians can celebrate the game in their own neighborhoods and also encourage use of rail to alleviate traffic and gridlock around town . Each night from 6pm -9pm , designated neighborhoods offer 2-6 large scale events inside of existing bars, restaurants, museums and venues that showcase local art, live music, culture, performances. Monday 1/30 in Midtown, Tuesday 1/31 in Theater District, Wednesday 2/1 in East Downtown (EADO), and Thursday 2/2 in the Museum District.
There are also special experiences that last all week long like a “Football Food Crawl” by Houstonia Magazine showcasing 15 restaurants who have agreed to provide free food and beverage sampling.
A “Game City Love” Scavenger Hunt by T-Mobile begins Monday, January 30th at 5 pm and ends Thursday, February 2nd at 9pm. Contestants show love for Htown by exploring Houston neighborhoods, answering trivia about football, visiting landmarks and local businesses for a chance to win one of three grand prizes.
A traveling interactive Selfie wall called, “I AM HOUSTON” by Shelbi Nicole, the official Super Bowl 51 Helmet Artist, is a key focal point. Guests step in front of the wall to surround themselves with words of empowerment, encouragement , creativity and collaboration to signify how Houston’s greatest assets is its people. The mural will unveil on Monday at the Mongoose and Cobra then travel to different locations each night (Tuesday – Batanga , Wednesday – Magpies and Peacocks and Thursday – Health Museum).
Monday, January 30th begins at MATCH in Midtown as executives from Major Sports teach local Houston business owners how to do business with the Pro’s. Next stop, is a visit to Midtown’s very 1st Art Crawl sponsored by Randall featuring 8 galleries, wine and cheese, a charging station by T-Mobile , Virtual Reality experience by Samsung and 18 Wheeler Shipley truck that makes live donuts. Everyone comes together in the evening at the Official Kick Off Party Celebration at Mongoose and Cobra for scotch tastings, DJ, complimentary bites and more.
