Grapevine Fire Department worked a 2 Alarm, high-rise fire the TownePlace Suites by Marriott (DFW North/Grapevine). Several other departments responded including Bedford, Coppell, D/FW Airport, Flower Mound, Haltom City, Lewisville, and maybe some that I missed.
At 1:44AM Grapevine dispatchers toned out a waterflow alarm on the 3rd floor. Enroute, dispatchers received additional alarms, indicating smoke, as well as a phone call. Battalion 1 requested the call be filled out to a first alarm assignment. Crews arrived quickly on scene, and made their way to the third floor where they confirmed smoke. Battalion 1 requested a 2nd alarm. Crews found the fire room, and fortunately, the sprinkler system kept the fire in check. I believe interior crews deployed an attack line and finished it off. A window was opened to help with clearing the smoke.
High-rise fires require special strategies and tactics, and lots more resources than most other fires, especially when they’re occupied like this hotel.
