Houston man wins truck, visit from sports all-stars from Papa John’s Pizza

Donald Hayes lives in Pearland, Texas – a city of about 110,000 people, located 15 miles directly south of downtown Houston. He’s an average guy leading a typical American middle-class life. He has a passion for Houston history – specifically Astroworld and the Astrodome, and enjoys collecting comics. He is a big Houston Astros fan. He has also been entering contests since he was 9 years old.

Hayes has won some amazing things over the years, such as a couple of “dream trips” to Montreal and to Yankee Stadium, complete with town car pick ups and drop offs, and free luxury hotel accommodations.

When he was in line at Bedrock City Comics in February to get some author signatures, a truck pulled up in the parking lot, wrapped to advertise Papa John’s Pizza. Hayes had seen a commercial for a contest where folks could take a “selfie” with the truck and send it in to Papa John’s for a chance to win the truck. He decided to get out of the line of fans to do so. Six weeks later, that decision ended up winning him the truck, along with visits from Houston Texans Defensive End JJ Watt and Houston Astros All-Star Jose Altuve.

The truck, donated by Gullo Ford in Conroe, Texas, is currently still wrapped to advertise Papa John’s, but will soon look like a regular metallic blue Ford F-150 XLT. The keys were presented to Hayes at his home on Thursday, April 26 with much fanfare.
