Opioid overdose deaths increase nationally, locally

It could begin with a prescription for a sports injury or as a way to escape the pain of unresolved childhood trauma. Whatever leads someone to become addicted to opioids, addictions have led to an increase in overdose deaths nationally and locally.

Between 2014 and 2015, Denton County opioid-related overdose deaths increased from 15 to 27 deaths, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Collin County overdose deaths increased from 20 to 24 deaths between 2014 and 2015.
