The Carroll ISD board trustees directed district staff to explore the potential implementation of a voluntary, non-punitive random drug-testing program for middle and high school students during a preliminary discussion during Monday’s school board meeting.
The purpose of this proposed pilot program is to enforce a drug-free educational environment, educate students and prevent harmful consequences caused by illegal drug and alcohol use, according to a staff presentation.
Parents may sign their children up, and 10 percent of participating students would be tested each testing date.
