Kathee Livengood was a successful Realtor but found the time to belong to, or support, almost every civic organization and “cause” in Grapevine. She was known as the Beer Diva for supervising the Chamber beer booths and she was the expert everyone went to for help with auctions.
She worked at every Main Street Days Festival and every GrapeFest until her death. Over the years, her passion for helping people was instrumental in raising thousands of dollars to assist the elderly and children through GRACE and the Women’s Division; people injured and disabled through the Joey Wilkins Foundation; and anyone who was touched by cancer by founding the Relay for Life event in Grapevine.
Kathee passed away in May of 2012, and several of her friends wanted to find a special way to honor her. She had no children and no close relatives to help preserve her legacy with a scholarship. The scholarship was designed to be different from the usual good grades, financial need type for college students.
The KL Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2013. The scholarship is awarded to women in the Greater Tarrant County area who are gaining educational skills to obtain employment and/or to improve their earning potential. This scholarship may be awarded to vocational schools, culinary institutes, beauty colleges, healthcare training facilities, trade schools, community colleges and/or 4-year universities.
The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Foundation has provided us with a ticket to give away to one of our readers.*
