Migration Celebration announces Featured Speaker


PhotoContestExhibit2This year’s Migration Celebration fundraising dinner features keynote speaker Kelly Drinnen, Education Specialist at Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, Galveston, Texas. 

Ms. Drinnen’s presentation is titled Cruising Through: Migrations In and Around Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. The coral reefs of Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary serve as a focal point for tropical and sub-tropical marine life about 100 miles off the Texas coast. Explore with us the fly-ways and by-ways above and below the waters of this haven in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Migration Celebration Kickoff Dinner will be held at Freeport RiverPlace, located at 500 N Brazosport Blvd, Freeport, TX 77541, on April 8, 2016.  The evening will include our traditional roast pork dinner.  Doors open at 5:30PM.  Tickets are $30.00 each and the proceeds are used to fund the event.  Migration Celebration is a free family festival that allows families to experience the joys of nature  at the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge.  Migration Celebration photo contest submissions will be on display, and winners will be announced.  For more information and directions to Freeport RiverPlace go to www.migrationcelebration.org. ‘Biggest Loser’ coming to Angleton

downloadIn an effort to help the community shed some pounds, the Greater Angleton Chamber of Commerce has accepted the challenge from the “Biggest Loser.”

The opportunity was presented by representatives of the NBC reality show to chambers across the country, Angleton Chamber president and CEO Beth Journeay said. This is the first time the chamber has offered a program such as this.

Veterans Invited to Ron Paul Luncheon

As gratitude for the service they have given to their country, The Exchange Club of Angleton is inviting veterans to come and attend its 12th annual One Nation Under God luncheon Nov. 13 for free.

The featured speaker is former U.S. Congressman Ron Paul, who also ran for the presidency three times, the first as a Libertarian, and the rest as a Republican in 2008 and 2012.

Angleton Republican Women Features Speaker on “Radical Islam” August 17

ARWThe Angleton Republican Women will meet this Sunday, August 17, at 2:30PM in the West Annex (tax office) of the Brazoria County Courthouse. The physical address is 451 N. Velasco, Angleton. This Sunday, we will be hearing from associate member, Torry Tvedt, who will give a program on radical Islam. Please join us and bring a friend to hear and discuss this very important message. Everyone is welcome! As always, our members will provide snacks, coffee, and refreshments.

If you have not joined for 2014, we are still taking memberships. Membership dues are $25 for primary members, $10 for men and for women associates who are primary members of another club. Membership forms will be available.

Women’s Center Holds Annual Fundraiser

The Women’s Center of Brazoria County will be holding its 12th annual fundraiser Aug. 8 and 9 at the Brazoria County Fairgrounds in Angleton.

Like in past years, this event aids the organization to offset costs in helping local victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

According to the website, “This year’s biker fund-raiser will be held on August 8th and 9th at the Brazoria County Fairgrounds. All proceeds will again benefit The Women’s Center. Please mark your calendars now to attend for lots of fun and a very good cause. The event’s big raffle item will be a 2014 20′ Sportsman Classic Travel Trailer. So, if you hunt, fish or enjoy the outdoors, tickets are $10 each, and you don’t have to be present to win. Tickets can be purchased at several of our offices.”

Brazoria County Library System Book Sale Jan 23 – 25


The Brazoria County Library System will hold its Annual Book Sale on Thursday evening and all day Friday and Saturday, January 23, 24 and 25 at the Angleton Library. Starting Thursday, January 23 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., the public can find and buy books covering various topics for bargain prices. Most books sell for one dollar or less.

The sale Friday and Saturday, January 24 and 25, starts at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until 6:00 p.m. The sale includes outdated items removed from library shelves over the past five months. Donated books from the public are also available.

There will be fiction, nonfiction, videos, audiocassette tapes and children’s books. Since space at the Angleton Library is limited, additional books are always added to the sale as merchandise is sold. Make sure you come back later!

Money raised during the book sale is used by the County Library Board to benefit the branches, including paying for performers during the summer reading program.

Volunteers 16 years of age or older are also needed to help with the book sale. Volunteers can help set up or take down the book sale and help during the actual hours of operation.

The Angleton Library is located at 401 E. Cedar Street.
