This year, Dionisio is hosting a unique Kick-Off Party highlighting Texas Gulf Coast shrimp at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26. All are invited to attend. The event will be at Pearland’s Dionisio Winery, located at 2635 Miller Ranch Rd #103, Pearland, Texas 77584. Tickets are $75 per person and will soon be available through Eventbrite.

“Although we want people to take pleasure in this rewarding experience of wine tasting, we do want the Festival to be an opportunity to give back as well,” said Clarice Nelson-Aranda, Chairman of the Wine and Food Festival.

This year, a portion of the festival proceeds will benefit Stand Up for Kids, a 501 c3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to, “End the Cycle of Youth Homelessness.” Stand Up for Kids is run almost entirely by volunteers, and has established 18 outreach programs all over the United States. Through a sponsorship, the Festival is supporting an upcoming expo assisting the development of innovative programs that provide homeless youth the assistance, training and resources to make a successful re-integration into society.

“We estimated last year’s festival attendance at 1,500 plus people and hope to greatly exceed that number this year so that our commitment to the youth of America, which will help run our country some day, will be benefited,” Aranda said.

“Hooters will open a fresh new prototype restaurant in Pearland including more comfortable seating with revamped high back chairs and booths to sleek finishes and top-of-the-line AV packages designed to enhance the guest dining experience from the moment they walk through the doors,” Mark Whittle, senior vice president of global development at Hooters of America said when contacted by The Journal.

The west Pearland Hooters will also feature large flat-screen TVs for sports fans, patio seating and a menu to include burgers, salads, seafood and of course, chicken wings.

“The building is 6,000 square feet with a 400 square-foot patio. It will be built at 15838 S Hwy 288 on a 1.62 acre lot,” Whittle said. “Hooters Girls will begin warmly welcoming fans in July 2016.”

Pearland Islamic Center to host Annual Spring Carnival honoring local heroes

570296e34d428.imageEvery year, the Pearland Islamic Center hosts a Spring Carnival with a different theme each year. Last year’s theme was the Inter-Faith Peace Garden. It was a successful event attended by Christian Church leaders, Hindu temple representatives, Inter-Faith Ministries of Houston, Jewish Rabbis and city dignitaries, including Pearland Mayor Tom Reid.

This year the theme is, “Honoring our local Heroes,” including Pearland Police Department and Pearland Fire Department. St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is co-sponsoring the event.

“Our ‘Honor our Heroes’ event will bring various faith traditions and city officials together to demonstrate our appreciation and support for the brave police officers and fire fighters in our community,” said Abul Azad, Director of the Pearland Islamic Center. “Moreover, it will be a wonderful opportunity to draw the public’s attention to the danger our first responders face every day while wearing the uniform.”

Bazaars, food, games, rides, bounce houses, mountain climbing, train rides, a petting zoo, Henna tattoos, face painting and balloon artists are just some of the attractions.

The entry fee wristband is $15 for unlimited fun.

The Carnival will be held on Saturday April 9 at the Pearland Islamic Center, located at 1530 Garden Rd.
