Gardening enthusiasts gather for Keep Pearland Beautiful’s Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon
Gardening enthusiasts and supporters of Keep Pearland Beautiful (KPB) gathered for the 12th Annual Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon Friday (Oct. 9) at the Pearland First United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
Gardening expert Chris Wiesinger, dubbed “The Bulb Hunter” in an article that appeared in the New York Times, served as guest speaker.
Wiesenger shared stories of his adventures hunting bulbs in remote locations in Texas and beyond and offered gardening tips. He told guests he began collecting bulbs and propagating them on his farm in Mineola as a senior in Texas A&M’s horticulture program, where he earned the nickname “flower” among his fellow cadets.
He’s the co-author of two books (“The Bulb Hunter” and “Heirloom Bulbs”) and his expertise has earned him national recognition through articles in The New York Times, House and Garden Magazine, Southern Living and The Wall Street journal. Wiesinger is also the owner of The Southern Bulb Company where he now distributes his bulbs to nurseries and home gardeners online at www.southernbulbs.com
The luncheon also featured a silent auction, a raffle drawing and a native and adaptive plant sale. All proceeds from the luncheon are used to support KPB environmental initiatives and programs. For more information about KPB, visit www.keeppearlandbeautiful.org
