PRESS RELEASE

Foundation Check - 3The 2015 Adidas Texas Volleyball Invitational, the largest high school volleyball tournament in the nation, is giving back to the Pearland Independent School District with a donation of $17,000 to the Pearland ISD Education Foundation.

The foundation, which provides funds for educational programs and activities, has granted almost $50,000 to Pearland ISD teachers, schools, and projects. The tournament’s contribution is the largest single donation to the foundation since its inception in 2013.

“We are grateful to Adidas, participating volleyball teams, and our own coaches, John Turner and Jason Karim, for the generous donation,” Jeff Barry, Foundation President, said. “This gift will significantly boost the foundation’s grant making potential and will help to make a larger impact on Pearland ISD teachers and students.”

The Adidas Texas Volleyball Invitational Tournament, in its nineteenth year, hosted 88 teams from across the state of Texas during the three-day competition. A check presentation was held during opening ceremonies on Thursday (Aug 13).

“The city of Pearland and the school district have been great partners for us throughout these years. With the support of Adidas, we are excited to be able to invest in our community and give to our teachers and students,” said Pearland High School volleyball coach John Turner.

This is a fun team event to benefit the Pearland ISD Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that enriches teaching and inspires learning in Pearland ISD. The event will include concessions for guests and a silent auction.

How does the bee work?

Twenty teams of three adults work together to spell words and compete for the coveted title of Best Spellers in Pearland.

Teams that face elimination can continue the fun by buying a “spell check” or “stinging” another team by passing a difficult word. Teams are invited to wear costumes — the more creative, the better!

A buzzing hive of spectators will vote for the best team costumes and the top team wins a prize.

Why support the Grown-up Spelling Bee?

The spelling bee directly benefits Pearland ISD students and teachers. Money raised will support innovative educational programs and activities that fall outside Pearland ISD’s operating budget.

Cost to Participate: $500 – $5,000 per team

General Admission: $10 per ticket
